Tawny Eagle Aquila rapax and Steppe Eagle Aquila nipalensis, which is which? |
The 2 eagles are very similar in looks. The Tawny Eagle is usually smaller and paler than the Steppe Eagle. For both species there are individual variations in colour of body and head. They can however be distinguished from their gape. The Steppe Eagle is the only one of the genus Aquila in which the yellow gape flange extends to the rear of the eye. In the Tawny Eagle the gape flange never extends beyond the middle of the eye. zoologie.de |
